We took "possession" of our house almost a year ago (12/29) --and moved in on Jan 2 (Ed's BDay) - I quickly started taking the dogs to Golden Gate Park (which is very close to our house). On our first trip there I wanted to find the dog park so I could let the dogs run for a bit. Of course, I did not know exactly where to go.
I ran into a clown and her dog. No kidding. There was a clown (at least her face was painted clown-ish) and her dog (and this was around 8am) -- I asked how do I get to dog park and she told me. I took the dogs and it was fun. But I thought, this would never happen in Santa Ana...
So this to me is so SF -- I got directions to the dog park from a clown and her dog. This place is the bomb.

Another thing I love about SF
We live near Cole Street and this morning we walked to Cole and Parnassus and went to the patissarie (sp?) and I had a double latte that came in a great latte bowl. I love this place! I'll post pictures soon! This place is VERY French (my friend Pam would love it) - the pastries are delicate and wonderful and the coffee is amazing.
They serve this fruit, granola and yogurt dish for breakfast that looks incredible (if I was the type who ate something healthy for breakfast) -- yum!
We moved to San Francisco because we wanted neighborhoods to walk to -- we definitely got that! It's one of the best things about living here. Next, I'll rave about Keezar Bar...

SF has a great music scene
One thing I love about San Francisco is the music. I am totally reliving my 20s. I live right off the N Judah train which can whisk me to the Warfield or I can catch a bus to the Fillmore. It great. I don't even need a car. Since moving here I've been able to see the Arctic Monkeys, the Dandy Warhols, Los Lobos, Ray Davies, John Hiatt, the Fratellis, and more. Its so great.
Mom
Yesterday was the anniversary of my mother's death 9 years ago. I can't believe its been that long. It was 1999 the end of the century. It was a difficult year since in addition to losing my mom, I lost my dad about 6 weeks before (and sadly my aunt about 3 weeks after my mom). Anyhow, that is another story and I really just wanted to remember my mom on this day.
I remember her mowing the lawn over the summer when my dad was away at Vietnam. I remember her doing cartwheels when she was about 47 down the hill near our house when we lived in Hawaii, to show me how to do it. I remember how much she grew to love Hawaii and the people she met there. I remember her years when she worked at Disneyland. She loved her work and really enjoyed the many people she met there. I remember how we drove to the animal quarantine area in Hawaii to visit our dog and cat every day while they were quarantined in Hawaii (four months!). I remember her talking to our dog and telling him adventure stories that he would star in and how he would just stare and listen, hanging on her every word. I remember how she would complain and complain when my aunt (her sister) would arrange to take her to cultural events but rave and rave about what a great time she had when she got back. She did this every time.
She was a great person -- truly inspirational. I love you mom!

My first weekend in beautiful San Francisco
OK first of all, the truck we rented to move our family of four was too small. So we had to move again. Or that's what if felt like. We loaded one huge truck with half our stuff, drove from Orange County (about 8 hours), unloaded it, drove back down to the OC, loaded the truck with the rest of our stuff, put the dogs in the car, and drove almost straight back to SF.
Before we went back for our second move we took the kids to my sister-in-laws house and parked our wonderful, fabulous VW Passat on a side street by where we were staying so that it could be parked for longer than just a few hours.
When we came back on Sunday we unloaded the truck. On Monday we checked on our VW and it was gone. Was it stolen????? Of course not. We learned by talking to a guy fixing his fence that the night before, some druken kid took the corner too fast and totalled two parked cars. Unfortunately for us, our beloved VW was one of them. The police report said that he rolled around in the street for a moment and said I must have hit a thousand cars.
RIP our little Passat and welcome to the big city.
